Essential techniques

Three techniques every creature needs

Each technique is shown with close-up stitch detail so you can see exactly where your hook goes.

Magic ring

Begin each sphere in a tight loop so the first round closes without a gap in the center.

Invisible decrease

Shape rounded heads and bodies by working two stitches together through their front loops.

Clean color changes

Pull the new yarn through the last loop of the old color so stripes stay crisp along the seam.

Troubleshooting

Fixing the common beginner snags

Uneven tension, accidental holes, and curling fabric are normal. Check your count and tension, then adjust one step at a time.

Tension gaps

If holes appear between rounds, pull the working yarn a little firmer and count each round before moving on.

Stitch markers

Place a marker in the first stitch of each round so you can see where each round begins and ends.
